That represented the Trump family. Since i doubt they were smuggling cocaine, that lawyer was there to provide legal counsel to his clients. That’s inherently privileged. Mueller can’t break that privilege without being able to PROVE, in a court of law, that criminal activity was taking place. And even then, it’d be a tough case.

And from a legal strategy point of view, Mueller doesn’t want to talk to the Trumps yet. That’s what he’s going to do last, after he’s collected as much info as he can. That way he’ll know what questions to ask, what the answers should be, and knows what he’ll do if he gets an unexpected answer.
