18. Make America Backwards Again.

Policies like this remind me far too much of my first job after college. Men were paid higher salaries for the same exact job because they were assumed to be providing for a wife and family, though even single men received higher wages than women. Working women were assumed not to need as much money. Thankfully, the women’s rights movement came along, and such nonsense eventually stopped or at least improved (though corporate pay in some cases still favors men)—until now when Republicans are once again trying to base pay on who you are and not the job you’re doing.

Imagine what we could accomplish as a country if we helped ALL people get ahead and stopped fighting to punish people for being poor, a minority, of a non-Christian religion or no religion at all, or a different gender or sexual orientation. We spend our public time arguing over things that help elect politicians but do nothing to advance the success of the country. Sigh.
