Iran retaliated by threatening to close the suez canal. Because Iran can't sell most of their oil, other nations have to buy from other countries.... this includes the U.S.

As a result, our exports have increased. This leads to less domestic oil on the U.S. market. Decreased supply leads to higher prices.
