hence no longer "single use bags".

They've banned plastic shopping bags in New Zealand and it's a pain in the ass because I used to use those bags to line the trash can in the bathroom, wrap my lunch to keep it from leaking in my backpack and to keep germs off my lunch fork or spoon, rewrap open food containers and keep my home baked bread fresher.

I almost never used those bags only once and a lot of times could get four or five uses out of them before they had to be thrown away.

The only real effect is that now I have to buy plastic bags when I used to get them for free. And the ones you have to buy in the stores are much heavier weight than the ones they used to have because they're meant to be used over and over so there's no way they biodegrade as the fast as the ones they used to have.

It's also a massive pain in the ass when you get takeout Chinese in a little metal tin and they can't give you a bag to carry it in. Last month I had to carry my food home ten blocks in a flannel shirt to avoid burning my hands.
