(62,328 posts)None of us are farmers. I had always been told that planting after June 1st was extremely iffy due to weather, especially the cold weather you mention.
My friend informed me that genetics and hybridization had made that s non-issue long ago. He said that there are now several varieties that can go from planting to mature in 60 days. I can't verify that, but considering how corn has been manipulated in recent years that certainly doesn't sound far fetched.
The next question would be seed supply of such hybrids. No idea on that either.
Just came back from lunch and noticed that a lot of fields had bare spots that were probably avoided during planting due to the soggy ground. Don't know if that will add up to substantial acres or not. My guess would be not.
Also don't know how much is still in storage. If I recall correctly last year was a super bin buster, so that excess may be enough to cover any shortfall.
