15. Also, "When we impeached Clinton, it wasn't about trying to overturn a duly elected president

because he lied about getting a blowjob. It was about honoring the rule of law. We didn't have a choice -- we were obligated to impeach him."

They attempt to describe non-partisan witnesses into members of their imaginary Deep State. They live in a fact-free universe of their own making. People who have factual information -- including hearing the conversation first hand -- don't count because they weren't elected. (Huh?) No one who isn't a Trump supporter is allowed to testify. (Which is false, since several of the people on their witness list appeared before the committee.)

Under their argument, no president could ever be impeached, no matter how egregious their actions -- like selling out our country for personal gain. If that were true, why did the framers put impeachment in the Constitution? The document is not that many pages, and you can believe that every word of it was argued about at the Constitutional Convention. For example, counting blacks as 3/5th of a person wasn't put there because someone said, "Wouldn't be a hoot to make a Negro count less than a white?" It was a salve to the southern states to get slave owners to sign the document.

If a president can hold office regardless of what he does, then he's a king, and that defeats the whole purpose of declaring independence from England. At least royalty has a sense of noblesse oblige. Trump wants to be a dictator whose every whim is catered to without question. His motto is, "I got mine, f*ck the rest of you." He sees himself as being above and beyond the law, and the Republicans and his supporters are perfectly okay with that.
