7. I was reading a couple articles this morning

and there is some parrying going on. I.e., there are at least 4 GOP Senators who are signaling that they want witnesses permitted and these same ones have also signaled that they would vote against any summary dismissal of a trial in the Senate in any case.

So with the GOP "losing" those 4 (making any drastic moves by Turtle risky), a "majority" vote would be in support of Democrats - 51 (=45 Dems + 2 Indies + 4 GOP) - 49 (GOP).

And as an interesting sidenote - even this vote in the House is gonna bring up questions regarding how the GOP in there might vote. Would they vote against sending the Articles over to the Senate because their default is to vote against anything Democrats want to do (in a silly last grandstand move that would actually help Democrats wanting to wait) or would they vote to send the Articles over (which would then "legitimize" the process against the WH's wishes).
