Trump launched the assassination attack without Putin's authorization and Putin wasn't too happy about it. Iran's response actually harmed American troops, which could have been used for justification for more attacks/escalation. But Putin doesn't want escalation right now. So Trump has to deny that any Americans were injured because otherwise there was no reason to back down if troops had been injured. So what you are seeing is Trump deny any troops were injured.
