Either someone for Trump is lobbying them or they’re trying to rehabilitate his image for some reason. First of all, Trump took credit for the vaccines when Pfizer, the first to get approved, did not participate in Operation Warp Speed for their research. They used their own money, so nothing Trump or his sycophants did helped get that vaccine to market faster. Second, Trump most likely delayed the vaccine a bit because he pressured the makers to release their vaccines before the election to help his reelection. There were many articles about the public not trusting the vaccines because of Trump trying to rush their trial phases. Neither Pfizer nor Moderna wanted a product the public refused, and waiting until after the election was not a long wait. Third, Trump and his administration did nothing but lie for four years. There is no reason ever to believe anything they say. Their claim that the Biden team is following their playbook is laughable—they never had a playbook the whole time or if they did all it said was lie for Trump.

The WaPo article was more about the distribution plan and the plan to ramp up vaccine production. Those writers gave the Trump team credit for the idea of asking Merck to manufacture the J&J vaccine to increase production. The idea may be theirs, but they didn’t follow through so all they deserve is credit for the idea rather than full credit for negotiating the deal. That idea was like a lot of other ideas that Trump bragged about but never delivered—like his fabulous news healthcare plan that was always to be released in two weeks but never saw the light of day, or his fix for the opioid crisis which was a photo with him of a task force that never did anything, or his plan for infrastructure investment that resulted only in an announcement of Infrastructure Week every now and then to change the subject. The lack of follow through and actually accomplishing anything is a hallmark of his administration—and most likely one of the reasons he ran his businesses into the ground, had six bankruptcies, and had to go to Russia begging for money.

There’s a reason the US went from having one of the worst pandemic responses in the world to the world’s best response to getting the vaccine manufactured and administered, and that is the different man at the top.
