(6,804 posts)They have been Pavlovially programmed to think that taxes on the wealthy are "job killers" and "death taxes". Their understanding is framed in the concept that taxes on wealthy are an unfair punishment for success. That's the only way they can conceptualize it and since they have no chance of associating, much less identifying, with wealthy people, they have no opportunity for insight to disabuse their misunderstanding. Most of them THINK they're already upper middle class which means, to their thinking, they're only a small step below "rich".
They do not know or accept the fact that virtually ALL the wealthy in America today connect that status to inherited, unearned, attributes. For instance: multi-generational investment and property assets, environmental experience of exposure to wealth and familial traditions of financial education and political influence, the fortunes of genetic selection such as health and IQ.
But, lets be honest, it's mostly inheriting so much that you simply couldn't squander it all in a single generation if you tried. Fact, Donald Trump was never really "wealthy". First and second generations of criminal "empires" rarely ever are.
