It’s the west side and other pockets around the city as well. And, yes, it’s different. I live not too far from one of the gang pockets. We play “gunshot? fireworks?” all the time. Oddly, though, I never feel unsafe. Chicago is a fantastic city. However, when I moved here, I was very surprised at the segregation of neighborhoods in Chicago.
