1. I'm not sure it has as much to do with hate as it does with greed.

Many firearms manufacturers primarily served the military needs for decades. To increase their profits, they decided to expand their markets to more private citizens. I’ve never read a history of the NRA, but there’s a reason it changed from an organization supporting hunters and gun safety to one lobbying member of Congress and state houses and running advertising campaigns creating fear and the need to have guns for protection. Obviously, private citizens could always buy guns, but the NRA and the Republican Party got on board the fear train to sell even more. And thus today, the country is awash with weapons initially developed for the military and now in the hands of extremists. All for greed and more profits.
