In reply to the discussion: Jeb Bush In 2016? [View all]DFW
(54,349 posts)The Republicans nominated Romney because they couldn't think of anyone else to nominate. Huntsman might have been a formidable opponent, but he wasn't rich enough or malleable enough, and got nowhere. He may even have had a conscience hidden somewhere, and that is a BIG no-no for Republicans.
So, besides Rubio and Jeb, who do they have for 2016? Rand Paul? I don't think so. Well, there's always Romney, of course, but I think this time, he'll have had enough.
Despite her obvious qualifications for the job, Hillary will be 69 by election day, 2016. I doubt that she would want to run, and the thought of having to run a 69 year old against a youthful sleazeball who looks good on magazine covers (Rubio) is scary considering the media-addicted electorate in front of whom she'd be competing.
Right after Obama's inauguration in 2009, Howard Dean said he would never even consider running after Obama's second term was over. He said he thought he was too old, and that Obama was already old enough (!). We should be looking for some wise-beyond-his/her-years 40-something who do both jobs: the campaigning, and the presidency, once won. They'll make mistakes because they'll be new, but they'll learn.
In other words, in terms of age, we should looking for another Bill Clinton (or another Barack Obama).
