(45,331 posts)The term "settle" doesn't have the meaning typically ascribed to it in this instance. Rather it relates to the wording of the judgment when the court directs the winning party to write up the order and submit it to the clerk rather than simply have the clerk enter it without further input. It is a process used where the details of the how the court's decision is to be implemented aren't spelled out in the judge's decision. I recommend you take a look at the case cited by Trump's attorneys, which I don't think requires what he claims it requires.
