Stewardship Development, Housing Authority of Lincoln County, and Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) are partnering to celebrate a new 100% affordable housing development in Lincoln City. The grand opening of Wecoma Place takes place at noon on Friday Aug. 16, 2024. The new development will provide 44 homes to Echo Mountain Fire survivors and Lincoln City residents.
"The opening of this new affordable housing development marks a significant milestone for our community, said Karen Rockwell, executive director of the Housing Authority of Lincoln County. It not only provides safe and secure homes for many families but also fosters a sense of hope and belonging. This initiative demonstrates our commitment to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all residents. We are incredibly proud of this achievement and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our community."
The development received 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Housing Disaster Tax Credits, as well as a wildfire and General Housing Account Program grants from OHCS.
It is an extraordinary moment. This is an example of how things can work as local and state partners come together under a common cause, in unison to deliver something important that none of us could do alone, said OHCS Executive Director Andrea Bell. We insist on a better future for the place we call home. A better future that centers community. A better future that sees where we can take what may feel like an improbable hope and turn it into an undeniable reality.

Huh. Didn't know that sort of thing was allowed in America. While details on the particulars of who and how one gets on are kinda sparse in the release, the question that might horrify America's real estate oligarchs is: where's the profit for us? Be tragic (from an oligarch's perspective) if this sort of thing became a trend, eh? We might have fewer unhoused and desperate.
Ever think Proudhon might be right?
