I'm putting my money on "up to the first day of the next congress." Odds are fair to excellent that we'll see it happen in January 2015.
It doesn't really matter what the Democrats do, the republicans will do what they want without any regard for precedent. If a procedure weighs them down, they change the procedure and push ahead anyway. It's one of the few ways in which I wish Democrats were more like republicans.
