There are a lot of folks, the hard core of Trumpland, who are reveling in his performance. He'll lose the softer edges of his support base, the passive racist misogynists, many of whom were willing to tolerate him vs. their whacked out perception of HRC. He'll lost them.

But his core - the true believers. They are dancing in the streets that we now have a "strongman" in the WH who will stand up to this liberal jerks who have been ruining our country (code for embracing diversity and valuing capability/competence/contribution to society over white male privilege). Those folks, like the two I overheard in a gas station along I71 about halfway up to Columbus - they really do believe "he's showing them".

They may not be a large enough group to have elected him without the collaborators but they are large enough to be a significant risk to democracy as we know it. For them to have a true power base in this country - we are so f'ed.

My prediction - as Trump's need for more and more adoration grows, there will come a day when we will wish for the "good ole days" of yesterday's presser. It will look sane when viewed in the rear view mirror of the next 3 years, 11 months.
