5. What I am doing to avoid covid-19 at age 80

Went on Carnival Ecstasy cruise ending on Feb 29th this year. My wife and I were not aware of how fast this virus was spreading. When cruise ended, I had this strange dry cough for 2 weeks. No other symptoms. My wife is a stage-4 cancer fighter for 2.5 years now, and she felt tired and sluggish after the cruise. So we attributed her tiredness to cancer & chemo which has horrible side effects.

Post-cruise, we limited all unnecessary gatherings, no getting together with friends, no indoor restaurants, no movie theaters, no shopping at malls. We have not even asked our daughters to visit.
This is a terrible way to live, but must be endured until the virus is under control.

We order food on-line at Walmart, they bag it and I drive there between 7 and 8 am, park car in designated pick-up area, open my car's trunk and wait. They load my trunk and shut it and I drive off, never coming in close proximity of anyone. At home we clean outside of all containers with anti-bacterial stuff.

However certain items Aldi has which are not available at Walmart or are much cheaper at Aldi, so I make a quick visit there once a week wearing a mask.

Every 3 weeks I drive my wife to cancer clinic. Before August, I used to go in to sit in with the cancer doctor with my wife. Now the clinic does not allow any non-patients to enter the facility. We have disciplined ourselves to NEVER TOUCH FACE with unwashed hands. Even in February on the cruise, that habit may have saved us from getting seriously infected.
