I would also like to add that in Presidential elections since 1980, only in 1984 and 2004 did Iowa go to the Republican. In 2004, it was by only 10,000 votes.
And Iowa has an excellent history on civil rights. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa We were third in the nation to make gay marriage legal and have been ahead of the curve on many other issues.
