My guess is that a sizable chunk of House Republicans will not be willing to go over the edge with default. And Republicans would surely get the blame because the just agreed on a budget and then they refuse to fund the budget just passed. There is absolutely no way they can spin that into a winning issue. Yes, we will have posturing on the issue but they really have no cards to play. Not just that, but when they come back in early January the first order of business will be a 4-6 month extension of unemployment benefits effective back to December 27th (when they ran out) and they will probably be paid for out of a reduction in farm subsidies. Lastly, they will pass a minimum wage increase and take up immigration reform then send that bill to the President for signature. Why would they cave on all of these issues? So they can turn their sole focus on the Affordable Care Act.
