In reply to the discussion: Pic Of The Moment: Just Another Day At The Republican National Convention [View all]lakercub
(658 posts)On the one hand, I actually felt for a moment that Cruz absolutely did the right thing. The pledge meant nothing when Trump hinted about Cruz's dad and the Kennedy assassination and when Cruz sent out the absolutely reprehensible Heidi-Melania picture tweet. At that point, Cruz doesn't owe Trump a damn thing. Trump crossed every line of decency (big shock) and Cruz can say whatever the hell he wants and it's fair game...Donald earned it. Memo to all those chickenshits on the floor. If someone did to your wife what Trump did to Cruz's, would you endorse the son of a bitch? No one with a spine would.
On the other hand, this still points to the massive narcissism of Cruz. He just had to go to the convention. He just had to put himself in the center and make it all about him. He had to have the headlines too, no matter what. Trump may be the most amazing, sickening narcissist I've ever seen, but Cruz isn't all that far behind. I'm sure Cruz's speech probably included the endorsement for those in the Trump campaign who wanted to read it in advance, but he had no intention of giving the endorsement because this was all about him. Ironically, in trying to position himself for 2020, he may have done himself permanent damage. If he was as smart as he says he is, he would have stayed away like Kasich has done. Kasich has gotten mixed press, but when Trump goes down in flames during the general and puts his foot in his mouth every ten seconds, Kasich is perfectly placed for his "I told you so's".
So, Cruz gets destroyed, Donald gets another night of headlines that have nothing to do with why anyone should vote for him, and the most amazing convention of my life time just keeps getting more absurd.
