In reply to the discussion: Pat Robertson: Revolting against Trump is revolting against God's Plan For America [View all]Rural_Progressive
(1,105 posts)I was living in shared housing following a divorce in 1980. Divorces can cause a shakeup in many aspects of your life, mine was a spiritual one. I decided I'd better consider "getting right with God" and maybe my life would get on track. Started watching televangelism because, hey, all those people couldn't be wrong.
Two things came out of my time spent watching the Bakkers, Copeland, the Crouchs, Hinn, Roberts, Swaggart, Falwell, Graham, and of course Robertson.
First I realized these people were not to be taken lightly. My two housemates were very sheltered liberals, who like many of the people I encounter on progressive forums, scoffed and laughed at my concerns about this fledgling movement. I saw the potential for these people to mold and form an impressive group of scared and angry people who could work in unison to exert a disproportionate influence politically. Would have really liked to have been wrong on that one.
Second I had my answer to whether I had any use for any version of Christianity that aligned itself with these people. If they are all going to "Heaven" I'm happy to take my chances on other options because spending eternity with people like these would truly be living in Hell.
