9. Its a symptom of your internal condition.

If you're sick, treat the symptoms. You know the usual routine, force plenty of fluids, vitamins especially vitamin C, and cold reducing meds. It takes time to heal.

Don't try to scrub off the accumulation of dry scruff on your lips, that will only cause painful irritation and raw spots that will make more dry patches. Don't lick or chew your lips as saliva contains digestive enzymes that will make the problem worse. Try applying warm oil with a cotton ball to loosen and soften the rough skin on your mouth. Mineral oil is OK, but I dislike the taste so I use olive oil instead. Vitamin E oil is another possibility.

Lip balms often contain alcohols, perfumes or other ingredients that can cause more irritation, so use with caution. Check your pantry for safe and soothing oils that you can apply as needed, Coconut Oil, grapeseed, flaxseed, and olive Oil.

Advice from an old retired RN, take it as you will. Feel better!
