About 6 weeks ago as I stood on my front porch readying my courage to endure the pain of making my old ailing knees walk down the steps to take my big sweet Lab on her late night walk. She stayed unusually frozen by my side and halted her breath. Then, with silent footsteps, a beautiful little fox walked straight across the driveway, only ~15' away, directly in front of us and into the porch light. I froze too. It was magical. This gorgeous kit was totally unaware of our presence as it looked straight ahead.
My big baby girl was as transfixed as I was watching this stunning little red beauty cross our path. We both waited until she/he disappeared into the woods on the other side of our lawn before we moved.
Missy girl looked up at me, as if to say, "Mom, did you see THAT?"
What a sight! Just magical.
Our heavily wooded neighborhood is an officially designated Wildlife Preserve here on Virginia's east coast.
