For one thing, the world's supply of cork is diminishing, so screw-cap wines and boxed wines are starting to win over wine-loving environmentalists.

Also, the presence of the box has little to do with the quality of the wine within. The pouch within the box allows for less oxygenation of the wine over time. So boxed wine goes bad more slowly than bottled wine if the drinker consumes only small amounts at a time.

And even wine-snobs like me have to admit that a corked glass bottle is no indicator of quality. I've encountered some legendarily bad wines that came in traditional corked glass bottles.
