The only serious dog bite I ever got was from my sister's Chihuahua. He attacked the female of a pair of Doberman pinschers. The male went after the Chihuahua, but he was too fast for it. The owner, our neighbor, grabbed one of the Dobermans, somebody grabbed the other, and I tried to grab the Chihuahua,

The little bastard bit me and punched right through the nail on my left thumb. I did manage to sort of hold on to him for a few minutes, but when I let him go - or he wiggled loose because of the blood from my hand - he went back after the Dobermans. It's amazing the little dog didn't get himself killed many times over since in those days and in that neighborhood, no one leashed or penned up their pets.

The Dobermans didn't last very many years, but I don't know what happened to them. The Chihuahua disappeared at about 21 years of age. Mom offered a reward to the neighborhood kids if they found him dead or alive, but no one ever found him. He may have been eaten by the alligator that lived in the pond next to our house.
