(25,816 posts)50. In the early eighties while driving up in the Huachuca Mts at night in SE Az.,
a black panther ran across the road. I was not alone and my passenger assured me I wasn't
seeing things. They roam in the mountains of Sonora, Mexico, and the Huachucas are right on the
border. Very rare, very beautiful. Mountain lions are fairly common around here. Once in Patagonia,
a pick-up pulled up to the bar I was in, with a dead mountain lion in the bed of his truck. They are
predators of livestock and have a hunting season. (Or used to, not sure now) The lion was as long as his eight foot
bed, even extending onto the tailgate with it's legs out. I say let them have a steer now and then.
Steers are replaceable, these magnificent cats are not.
