of other wildlife etc. see if you can hang it up where critters don't reach near the nest and remove at dusk then
replace in A.M . since you would need new food mix anyway by then

Yellow Jackets are active in the day and i only put out a small amount not even a teaspoon of the mix out mashed and broken up for the wasps
I used the bottom of a YJ hanging trap for the strap+ surface ,because i had to buy the attractant that way in a kit. But any thing that will hang or can be tied and that is open where they can get it and go back to nest with it
One can get usually buy the attractant alone, but at this time of the year
the attractant sold alone was already sold out around here and i did take apart the trap and use the bottom with strap so it worked out
Don't forget the attractant
i used some on small pieces of tissue paper on the sides of the surface
Hung it on a shepherds hook pole with ties and put it in the ground near the nest

something like this but imagine the food instead of the lantern
