12. Help me overcome a concern

I watched a clip this morning that featured a voiceover by Wonder Woman as an ancient battle raged between Darkseid and the massed armies of Earth.

I almost couldn't believe how dull it was. If that was the movie's hook, it nearly guaranteed that I wouldn't want to suffer through the other 700 minutes of it. It was like the prologue to Fellowship of the Ring, but shot in a way that stripped out any excitement or urgency.

For that matter, I haven't seen a single one of his comic book adaptations that wasn't, at best, a sort of half-hearted "meh."

I grant that the opening sequence of Watchmen was terrific. Too bad the film was so plodding and lifeless.

And I'm a comic book geek from way back, so it's not as though the material doesn't appeal to me. I read Watchmen during its original release, for pity's sake.

But would someone please explain why Snyder is allowed to wield such power over the DC cinematic universe? Is it because he's dark and gritty?

Check out the HBO Max Criterion Collection movies exboyfil Mar 2021 #1
