Before we we're able to have a bigger place, I invested about $40 into a set of cordless headphones for the TV. I could watch what I wanted as loud as I wanted, and she couldn't hear a thing. She could also watch what she wanted as loud as she wanted because of the headphones I had on. That worked out well for us as long as I needed them. Quite comfortable also. Just offering a suggestion.
