(17,530 posts)13. My favorites are the Victorian style from the late 1800s and early 1900s.
I lived in one as a kid and it was a cool old house. You have to be a millionaire to modernize one with the creature comforts we desire today. I would never have another house without covered porches front and back. Neither would I ever live in a place where you couldn't pee in your front yard without raising the ire of the neighbors and police. You need porches for sitting under the ceiling fan drinking mint julips, reading a good book, and throwing rocks at the cat.
We built our final home in the late 90s and I am not sure what style it is, but I like it. When I move, it will be to a coffin.

kind of like the French styled ranch but with less rise to the roof and more porch around it

I like the fachwerk style that you see all over Germany, Switzerland and Austria
