(16,646 posts)Paternal, so they are distinctly different. But like so many twins, in many ways they are inseparable in an emotional way. I get along great with them because (they are boys) I'm one of the few adults in their life that isn't a relative and we've established that they can treat me as a "friend"*. I tease them regularly that of course, being twins, they had to divide their intelligence in half (it so not true it's funny. One is the best participant on their debate team.) It becomes a "challenge" regularly for us to "test" each others "intelligence". They beat me more than I want to admit, and they find no small amount of joy in that. But as a child of 7 siblings, it is fascinating to me to see their interaction.
*Yes, they know I'm a friend of their parents so yes there is a certain limit to our teasing of each other. And I will say they are very polite young men. I was embarrassed once in a restaurant when I noticed they were vastly more "respectful" to our waitress than their father or I were. Not that we were disrespectful or something, but they used vastly more "may we please...", "could I possibly have..." kind of language than their father and I who might just say "can we have...", or "... and bring me a...".
