I actually thought I could explain Post Hoc, Ergo, Propter Hoc to people who probably weren't able to tie their shoes without extensive coaching.
The attitude was: "I had a virus, and my doctor prescribed antibiotics, then my virus went away. So that means the antibiotics cured it!"
"After it, therefor because of it" doesn't necessarily apply in science. And it never does when it come to the notion that antibiotics can cure a virus.
But, boy did I catch hell for trying to shine a light in the darkness of their medical ignorance...
