However, let me add one of my own most distressing candidates: 'disgruntled'

That actually refers to a far less severe condition than the way it's generally applied today. Murderers are called 'disgruntled', fer cryin' out loud! The completely brain dead media almost always refers to employees who commit mass mayhem as 'disgruntled'. As for myself, we disapprove.
