Need to "calm down" before I kill someone....

Who knew trying to find cheap wheels could be so stressful? Our 15 yr old Honda finally gave up the ghost on Monday and I've been on a frantic search for my teens next car. Under $4k, reasonable mileage, not too terrible looking, mechanically sound even if its got body issues, good gas mileage paramount....

You know? The impossible car!

I'm in the Chicago area so competition for cars is intense. I've had 10! cars sold as I was driving to see them dammit. Its exhausting driving from Bridgeview to Evanston then back to Oak Park and then over to Posen only to discover the car was sold moments before I arrived.

Grrr

I just drove a 2002 VW Passat, 84k miles, manual transmission (she's a farm kid and grew up driving stick shifts), 30 mpg, excellent condition with a few issues that are easily repaired. Asking $3400. I need a tank since she's "wild" and has already totaled another car (she's an excellent driver but came to grief at a notoriously bad intersection without a long view because of the tall corn. She didn't even get a ticket).

It's being sold in a deeply Hispanic part of a nearby town. It's not "sexy" which is why I don't think its sold yet, but appears reliable and sturdy. I put down a deposit and it goes to my mechanic for a good look-over tomorrow am.

Wish me luck. Another day of car shopping may seriously turn me psycho... This Is NOT fun for me.
