My hot dogs as a kid came from the Woolworth's lunch counter and a long-gone "railroad car" style diner in Beverly Massachusets called the "Miss Beverly Diner."

From either location, they were served in toasted "top loader" buns (the kind that have toastable exposed bread on the sides rather than crust). I don't remember having anything on them other than mustard. I would get one with a milkshake (often called a "frappe&quot . They would mix it in a huge industrial blender thing and pour you a tall glass, and bring the steel mixing canister to you, which contained enough to fill a SECOND tall glass.

Those...as they say...were the DAYS.
