...if you were to ask people for a list of classic UK beers, you'd probably get more modern stuff then long established traditional bitters and dark ales.

You would probably get a few mentions for the likes of Hopback Summer Lightning, Harveys Sussex Best Bitter and the aforementioned Old Peculiar, but more people citing beers such as Thornbridge Jaipur and Oakham Citra, plus quite a few beers from Brewdog and Kernel as being classics.
