Sounds dumb now, but I really liked waxing floors at the grocery store. You finished on the same day (no long-term projects), and could stand back and look at this shiny floor with pride. Nowadays, it takes months to finish a project and success is determined by no one griping.

I worked there six summers, eventually got the job driving the train that went through the jungle

I was 13, hired as a "nanny" for 3 brats at a resort club in northern lower MI for the summer.
