In Louisville in the early 80's, in quality control.

At xmas, the whole plant shut down for a week. Everybody got a vacation, and necessary maintenance could be done on machines. Except for, "members of management". We still had to come in for "training". It was a joke. The last day, we were all desperate to get away. The powers that be said, you can leave now if you write a letter to your congressman and the Surgeon General, saying you do not believe cigarettes are harmful to anyone's health.

They knew damn well they were.
