My sister had to remove her daughter, who is on the autism spectrum and was 8 at the time, from a different school system here in Kentucky because she was literally being mistreated by the teachers, including special education teachers. The last straw was when a teacher literally had the entire class turn to look at my niece and say loudly to her "STOP WASTING OUR CLASS TIME!" My sister called a parent-teacher conference, where the regular teacher said that she had never had an autistic student before (yea, right) and the special needs teachers sat and passed notes to each other and smirked the whole time, like a couple of 13 year olds. Takes a lot of money, some from grandparents, but she is a private school geared toward special needs kids now, and doing great.

That school wanted to control my niece's every move more than they cared about if she learned, and she is sharp as a tac! But she has trouble with some behaviors, she has ADHD also. They were wasting this child, as well as abusing her.
