Maryland has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country. Accordingly, guns are already banned on college campuses. Maryland doesn't even allow ordinary citizens to have concealed carry permits.

So what does this law do? Well it's designed to prohibit things like NCAA rifle tournaments. Most importantly, Van Hollen is pushing it in the state senate so he can utilize it as political capital at some point in the near future. It's just a meaningless law, meant to cater to low information voters.

Hopefully, Donna Edwards wins the primary and Van Hollen's time spent in Annapolis is proven to be a waste.
