Fairfield County village mayor accused of pointing gun at teens [View all]

Prosecutor Kyle Witt said he requested a special prosecutor to review the allegations to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest with Turben, 68, a Republican mayor of the village of about 300 people located 10 miles east of Lancaster.

On June 23, Fairfield County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 9:30 p.m. to a house on the 8500 block of Main Street after a 911 call about a man with a gun, according to a sheriff’s report.

The caller, 13-year-old Tiana Leist, said Turben had pulled a pistol on her brother, Ethan, 15, and their friend, Kyle Love, 17, during an argument about curfew. Leist said Turben, who lives a few houses away on the same street, started an argument with the youths, saying they needed to get home because of the village’s curfew, which begins at 10 p.m.

When deputies arrived, they found Turben was armed with a Glock 19 9mm pistol, which he turned over to deputies, according to the report. Love, who recorded part of the altercation on video, handed over his cellphone as evidence.
