3. Don't underestimate how big a deal this is

Most Pennsylvanians, and I am one, think it's fairly outrageous to have such a high per diem rate, esp when an 87,000+ salary puts state legislators in the top 10% of all US wage earners. Then, they also can be vested in a defined benefit pension after 7 or 10 years in office.

Personally, I'm not opposed to being reimbursed for mileage driving to/from Harrisburg, or any business travel. That alone would cover the tolls and gas when driving, no need for $175/day in meals.
