My father, as unsentimental as a person can be, seriously told me to flush his ashes after he died, and I told him I would. When I received his ashes (they're called "cremains" in the biz) and had a look at them, I knew I wasn't going to flush them. There was about a quart of fine material that I worried would clog my toilet. It would have taken at least three "loads" to get them all down. I'd bet this guy took the ashes and maybe threw them away somewhere, but I doubt that he actually flushed them.

My father's ashes sat in my bedroom closet for seven years, and when my mother died, I took both sets and dumped them in a state park where they liked to go bird-watching.
