Many are academic, and written by doctors and professors etc. They generally know their stuff within their fields exceedingly well, but some of the howlers in terms of spellings and grammar mistakes I have to correct are mindbending.

Not to say this piece wouldn't have benefited from a proofread which would have improved first impressions, of course, but you can't judge a piece of work or the competence of an author in a certain field solely on those terms.
