Sure they could run a third party. But the problem is the votes in blue states will still go blue. While those in purple or near purple will have the odds increased to go blue. What they forget is that the winner of a state is determined by whoever receives the most votes. Any third party candidate put forth by the GOP is going to peel a whole lot more votes from Trump than the Democratic candidate. Thus diluting their votes.
