a quick solution is often copying and pasting the text i want into word or whatever processor and printing that.

Printers all have their own language when being sent data. I wonder if it because prowsers don't clean up whatever imbedded nugget is in the original web page before sending it off to a printer. trying another browser can often help on the same web page.

the other issue is a printer doesn't always have the same fonts that are in the document and that will get misinterpreted if for whatever reason the browser in use doesnt properly compensate for that.
