The wonderful thing about DU is that when you just feel that you need someone to talk to, DUe-rs are always there for you. Loosing my husband's sister and brother-in-law in January of 2009 was really heartbreaking. The local detective who secured the crime scene told my hubby and I that their case was one of four Murder-suicides that had occurred in Alameda, CA within a two week span.

One conversation you don't hear much is about the relationship between gun ownership and murder suicide when the parties are going through economic hardship. I think women are more easily adaptable when it comes to loosing something like a house. Many women feel they can feather a new nest elsewhere. For men, it is totally emasculating. They connect the ideal of homeownership as the fulfillment of their ability to protect and care for loved ones. When that is threatened they spiral down into despair. They despair and they pick up the gun.
