How fitting, since the story is about a woman who tries to nab a man under false pretenses -- just like Sanders initially presented himself as one thing but ended up being the opposite. In this song (from Act 2), the character Ella has realized that the ruse has gone too far. The difference is that Sanders seems to lack such self-awareness to see how his actions are not only hurting others but himself, as well. But as the song aptly states (since many on here compared Sanders to the Pied Piper) "the piper must be paid."

Too bad Sanders wasn't played by Judy Holliday! He would have been a lot less annoying!

If he was a big picture guy, his career and his campaign would look a lot different.
