1. It has seemed so strange over the years that the US corporate media NEVER mentions this atrocity?

It's a direct result of the Colombian oligarchy's war against the people, which has lasted since the 1940's, when the beloved leftist Presidential candidate, Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, was assassinated in public.

The oligarchy has always been supported by the US military/industrial complex, ALWAYS. The US, as explained by Donald Rumsfeld, sees Colombia as its "lily pad" nation, a "forward operating base" from which it can power down on any country in any direction from Colombia easily, and quickly.

To acknowledge that all these helpless, impoverished, lost human beings are the direct result of the struggle against the grotesquely powerful US-supported and funded government, which has received near $11B since 2000, an amazing amount of taxpayers' wages to pour into a small country, seems to be verboten here. It just never comes up. Never will.

Glad to see the name of the "Gulf Clan" mentioned. I assume that's the one operation in the Buenaventura area, where they have the "chop houses" and dismember their victims, still living, terrorizing the entire community unfortunate enough to not have the resources to move far, far away.

Thank you for this information, sandensea. Very helpful.
